THAYER — An early morning fire destroyed a rural Thayer home on Sunday.
Galesburg firefighters responded at 4:15 a.m. Sunday to a fire in the 3200 block of Lyons Road at Thayer. Labette No. 9 Fire District from rural Parsons also responded.
Firefighters arrived to find a double-wide manufactured home on fire. The fire had already burned down to the frame of the house, according to Galesburg Fire Chief John Lilburn. Following protocol, the fire department requested the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the cause.
David Peterson owned the home. His family has started a clothing drive, as Peterson lost everything in the fire except the clothes he took hunting with him.
Lilburn wrote a thank you to an air ambulance company that called in the fire, as well as responders from Thayer, Labette No. 9, the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office and the 911 dispatch center, the Labette Health Ambulance Service and the fire marshal.
