To better serve students and accommodate families in Parsons, USD 503 is adding 10 new bus stops this year.
Transportation Director Rick Giefer said a change in state regulations is allowing Parsons USD 503 to better reach students in the community in which they live and provide them with transportation to school.
New pick up locations initially being added will include: — Corner of Rosewood and Linwood — Presbyterian Manor — Corner of 26th and Railroad — Corner of 17th and Partridge — Corner of 17th and Morgan — Grow at Eden, Corner of U.S. 59 and 22000 Road — Corner of 26th and Partridge — 2700 Briggs — Volmer Truck and Tire, 5400 Main — Corner of Highland Ave. and Crestview Ave. The bus stops will soon be added to Infinite Campus for families to choose a bus stop for their children.
Giefer said more stops may be added as they refine the new routes.
Bus driver Neil Shelley said the transportation department is also providing riders’ families with access to an app that will assist in communications related specifically to bus transportation.
Shelley said the transportation department can send out alerts and reminders to parents and guardians of such things as delays, route changes, or other information. The app provides bus stop locations and allows parents to track the bus to gauge arrival time at a specific stop. The app also allows for two-way communication, so parents or guardians can use the app to communicate with the transportation department and let them know things like if their child is not riding the bus that day.
Arrangements for bus transportation can be made during enrollment.
