Local N ews Parsons Land Bank accepts seven properties

The Parsons Land Bank board on Thursday accepted five empty lots and two other lots with structures on them.

The properties at 1505 Morgan and 3014 Frisco both have structures on them, with the Frisco house holding a spot on the city’s demolition list. The lots are at 2324 Stevens, 720 S. 21st St., 2311 Belmont, 1301 Morton and 1924 Morgan, which is a larger property that has five lots in it.

The land bank still doesn’t have clear title to some of the properties because of various reasons, so they were accepted in to give staff time to get clear title to the properties.

Jim Zaleski, the city’s economic development director, who facilitates the land bank board, said he hopes the Hurley house at 1505 Morgan can be rehabilitated and saved.

He said developers are interested in city owned lots on 13th Street, Belmont and the cul de sac on South 26th. Once those lots leave the city’s listings, they need to be replaced, he said.

“That’s one of the first goals that we set out with was any of these lots immediately get into that program,” he said.

He said the land bank is meeting the goals it wanted: Save worthy houses and get some land and put it in queue for the free land program to replace lots that get developed. The land bank can also erase delinquent property taxes on lots to make them more attractive to developers.

The land bank had two early successes with two homes in the bank getting rehabbed.
