Donald L. ‘Don’ Thompson

Donald L. “Don” Thompson, 84, a resident of the Parsons Presbyterian Manor, died there at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025.

He was born July 31, 1940, at the family home near Parsons to Irvin A. and Cora Edna (Smith) Thompson. He graduated from Labette County Community High School at Altamont in 1958.

On May 27, 1961, he and Patricia “Pat” Crane were married at the Friendship Baptist Church in Parsons, the day after Pat graduated from high school. They had been married nearly 58 years when Pat preceded him in death on March 2, 2019.

After their marriage they first lived in Wichita, where Don worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co. Other place of employment included the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Burger King, Walmart and the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant.

He was a longtime member of the Center Bethel Church. He played minor league baseball for the Wichita Aeros, played softball and loved to play cards, horse shoes and fish for crappie. He loved to travel, camp and be active in his church.

Surviving are his four children, Rhonda Biggs (Jeffrey) of Parsons, Todd Thompson (Jill) of Elsberry, Missouri, Donald Thompson (Cathy) of Olathe and Anthony Thompson (Valerie) of Parsons; 16 grandchildren, Shandi Kepley, Jeffrey Biggs II, Dakota Thompson, Dillon Thompson, Fayth Bender, Sarah Brookshire, Grace Thompson, Ethan Evans, Matthew Thompson, Chase Thompson, Keith Ritz, Darian Spall, Kaylee Spall, Kaden Spall, Alexis Winkle and Nadia Ramirez; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents, Irvin and Edna; and a daughter-in-law, Liberty Thompson.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the Center Bethel Church with Drew Weidert officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson- Wall Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
