The Kids Gardening Club meets weekly starting around 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays (depending on weather) at the Parsons Community Garden, 15th and Clark, to learn about cultivating, caring for and identifying plants, as well as other aspects of gardening. Youth and adult mentors have planted vegetables, herbs and flowers in raised beds and other areas of the garden. Pictured (top photo, from left) are Darci Martin, Gary Martin, Clark Martin and Kara Martin. They are planting sunflower seeds in cardboard tubes and will bring them back to transplant once they get established. Crystal “C.C.” Burchell is helping the Martins with the project. Other youth are welcome to participate in the gardening. The other photos show echinacea purpurea flowers and young tomatoes that are growing on the vine. Other plants in the garden include peppers, potatoes, corn, okra, etc. Ray Nolting/Sun photos
