Parsons Library introduces Vox Books

Parsons Public Library patrons can now check out read-along and picture and chapter books called Vox Books.

Vox Books are the world’s first audiobooks that live inside printed books. The permanently attached Vox Reader transforms picture and chapter books into an all-in-one read-along. Vox Books capture children’s attention by combining picture books with professional narration of a book as they read along.

Each Vox Book has a speaker and push buttons attached to let you listen and read along. You don’t need any additional equipment and they can be enjoyed as a family or with headphones. This collection is especially helpful for early or struggling readers. Children can practice holding a book on their own, turning pages with a page-turning prompt, and also hear words being pronounced out loud, and get used to following along to read left to right. And, unlike bringing together a book and an audiobook, because the Vox read-along is directly from the book, it will not deviate.

Literacy comes in many forms, and studies show that read-alongs improve reading comprehension, according to a release from the library. You don’t have to worry about batteries, tapes, devices, internet access; you can just play and listen. Each Vox Books are fully portable and the rechargeable battery allows up to 100 listens per charge.

Vox Books check out just like other books. Patrons can search Vox Books by visiting our online catalog found on our website at parsonslibrary. org, place holds, and renew. Patrons are welcome to call the library for more information. Vox Books are limited to one book per card.

Parsons Public Library is located at 311 S. 17th. For more information, contact the library by calling 620-421-5920.
