Senior vouchers to be available
The senior Farmers Market vouchers will be available starting July 14.
“We and seniors were very disappointed the vouchers were not available June 1 as expected. People start calling us in May checking on when the vouchers will be available,” commented Stacy Dickerhoof, associate director, Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging. “So many of our seniors are on a limited income, and this is the only way for them to have access to fresh vegetables. The number of vouchers we will be getting has been cut by half so the vouchers will go fast.”

Beekeepers to meet July 10
INDEPENDENCE — The Montgomery County Beekeepers Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Independence Community College West, 2615 West Main St., in Independence. Mid- to late-summer is the time many beekeepers choose to extract their honey, and that can be a challenging process. Terry Emert has much experience with extracting and he will enlighten all those who need more information on the process, including how to determine when the honey is ready to be extracted. He will talk about the equipment needed to make this process easier and how to get it ready so that extracting will go smoothly. These meetings are always open to the public.
