Glen E. Shomber

Glen E. Shomber, 92, lifelong resident of Mound Valley, passed away at 11:04 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2025, at Labette Health.

He was born on July 16, 1932, in Mound Valley to Creed M. and Mabel (Mitchell) Shomber. Glen grew up in Mound Valley and attended schools there. He would often say, “I went to school to eighth grade and I didn’t care if I went that far.”

Glen served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.

In earlier years, he was a truck driver for several companies, was a farmer and stockman and a bus driver for USD 506 for close to 30 years. Several students have said, “He was the best bus driver ever.” He was known for his dry sense of humor.

Glen married Anita Fox on Jan. 13, 1962, in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1999.

Survivors include his daughter, Marlys Shomber-Jones and her husband, Chris, of Parsons; a son, Rodger Shomber of Edna; grandchildren, Cade Shomber (with whom he shared a birthday), Paige Shomber, Buzz Jones and his wife, Alison; and a great-granddaughter, Reagan Shomber; his girlfriend, Donna Bruner; a close friend, Carol Hale; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Neva Kesler and Carlene Griggs; a nephew, Rex Kesler; and a niece, Rhonda Griggs.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, at Mound Valley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mound Valley Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Mound Valley Fire Department first responders and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
