Donald G. “Don” Seeley, 98, a nearly lifelong Parsons resident, died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the First Presbyterian/First Christian Church in Parsons with the Rev. Jennifer Dawson officiating. The family will host a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall. Don was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Don was born in Parsons on Feb. 3, 1926, to Walter E. and Mary E. (Barnes) Seeley. He graduated from Parsons High School and served in the United States Navy.
Don married Donna Claire McKee on June 15, 1947, in Parsons and resided for short periods in Meridian, Mississippi, and Fall City, Nebraska, but most of their marriage was spent in Parsons, the town they were both born in and loved. Donna preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2023.
He is survived by three children, Tim Seeley, Nick Seeley and Janna LaCock; four grandchildren, Janae, Nicole and her husband, Tim, Chris and Daniel; and two great-grandsons, Quinn and Teague.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter E. Seeley Jr.
Don worked most of his adult life as a cattle buyer. He loved fishing, golfing and woodworking. He made the bridge in the garden next to the Pavilion in Forest Park and many other pieces throughout the years scattered throughout Parsons’ Bright Touch gardens. He was a collector of stray and sick animals, often bringing home ugly dogs, kitties and sick calves and lambs that he nursed back to health.
Don lived a life of dedication, fairness and compassion. He left a lasting impact on his family, and we miss him terribly.
