June’s food commodity distribution in Parsons has been canceled because of a lack of federal funding that pays for shipping in Kansas.
The Kansas Department for Children and Families notified the Labette Assistance Center that The Emergency Food Assistance Program would not be distributed this month. A release from the assistance center said that DCF had not received the required federal administrative funds to cover shipping expenses associated with food deliveries.
The assistance center is waiting on further updates from DCF, but the TEFAP shipments are expected to resume when the funding returns.
“Labette Assistance Center urges anyone living in Labette County who needs food to contact the Center to access our food pantry,” the LAC release said.
Contact the assistance center at 620-421-0700 to schedule an appointment to pick up food. The LAC is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Appointments are required. There are not income guidelines to use the Labette Assistance Center food pantry.
The LAC generally distributes TEFAP to 230 families in Parsons.
