Festival will be June 27, 28

MOUND VALLEY — The Mound Valley Flagpole Festival will be June 27 and 28.

Two scavenger hunts will precede festival activities. A photo scavenger hunt runs June 22 to June 27. Forms are available at Porky’s. A medallion hunt runs the same days. Clues will be posted daily on the Flagpole Festival’s Facebook page and at Porky’s. Cash prizes are possible in both hunts.

The festival events begin at 6 p.m. June 27 with a garden tractor pull at the ball park. An adult spelling bee follows at 7 in the new shelter house at the ball park. A pedal tractor pull for youth aged 4 to 12 takes place at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, June 28, events kick off at 8 a.m. with a 5K and mile fun walk, which starts and ends at the flagpole.

Mound Valley Methodist Church at Fifth and Walnut will provide breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.

At 9:45 a.m., a bike and ATV decorating will be judged at Third and Oak.

The corn hole tournament kicks off at 10 a.m.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to noon and vendors and food trucks begin sales at 10:30 a.m.

The parade lineup begins at 10:30 a.m. at Third and Hickory and the parade starts at 11 a.m. at Third and Hickory.

A full size antique tractor pull starts at noon at the northwest corner of the ball field.

A turtle race begins at noon, organized by the Labette County High School girls wrestling program.

The always popular mud volleyball tournament starts at 1 p.m.

In the evening on June 28, a dinner is served at the ball park at 6 featuring pulled pork, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, brownies and chips. Proceeds benefit the Mound Valley Fire Department.

The Retro Rockers will perform from 6 to 9:45 p.m. Fireworks will be set off starting at dusk, which is around 9:45 to 10 p.m.
