Three Oswego archers compete at South Carolina

The Oswego archery teams competed this past week at the World’s Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The events wrapped up on Saturday.

Oswego archery coach Neal Cruse said to qualify for Myrtle Beach, participants had to have a qualifying score at the national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

“It was a big accomplishment for these girls to make it this far. We actually had seven archers qualify but only the three were able to go. That was the most we have qualified for the World’s Championships ever,” Cruse said.

He said the girls who competed shot pretty well. They shot at or above their career averages on Friday.

“I was extremely proud of how they shot and represented our school. Only the best shooters make it as far as Worlds. Oswego had three competing at that level. On bullseye we were shooting with kids from Arizona,” Cruse said.

“On the 3D range, we shot against a girl from Alaska. It was pretty interesting hearing the story from her coach on the trip they made just to get to the tournament. It was a great experience for our kids and one that I am sure they will remember for the rest of their lives.

“I was extremely proud and honored to be able to coach them at the tournament.”
