Commission on Juneteenth
The Labette County Commission released a statement last week relating to Juneteenth after a discussion with Sontana Johnson days before.
The statement: “The Labette County Commission encourages all interested parties to participate in the Juneteenth festivities scheduled in any community you prefer located in Labette County. We recognize this is a culturally important event and support its activities.”
Raleigh Ringers Handbell to perform June 15
PITTSBURG — The Raleigh Ringers of Raleigh, North Carolina, an internationally acclaimed and Emmy-nominated handbell ensemble, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Bicknell Family Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburg.
The performance is sponsored by the Pittsburg Treble Clef Club. The group dazzles audiences with unique interpretations of sacred, secular, popular music, rock ‘n’ roll and original compositions. With an extensive collection of bells and bell-like instruments, they create contrasting moods, highlight melodic lines, bringing richness and depth to the music.
Tickets are sold only at the door. Only cash is accepted for tickets. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for youth ages 12 and under.
Click It or Ticket results
The Labette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a Click It or Ticket campaign earlier this month. The results were: 131 vehicle stops resulting in 34 seat belt citations, two child restraint citations, 14 speeding citations and 20 other citations, including three DUI arrests.
“We are here to enforce all Kansas traffic laws, and, ultimately, we hope to decrease unsafe driving behavior. If you were stopped, we hope you have learned from this experience. If so, we have made the roads a little safer for you and those you share it with,” Undersheriff Greg Haraughty said in a prepared statement.
College board to meet
The Labette Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Cardinal Event Center, 13th and Main. This is a public meeting.
