Larry L. Strickland

OSWEGO — Larry L. Strickland, 82, of Oswego passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Labette Health in Parsons following an illness.

Larry was born on March 28, 1943, in rural Oswego to Elmer Lee and Thelma Mae (Lindsey) Strickland. He was one of 12 children. A lifelong resident of Oswego, he graduated from Oswego High School in 1961.

He served six years in the Army National Guard, receiving his honorable discharge on Feb. 16, 1970. Larry worked as a machinist at Ruskin Manufacturing in Parsons for 42 years, retiring in 2009.

Larry enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time watching his koi fish pond and purple martins. He was a former member of the Oswego VFW and the Oswego Jaycees.

On April 1, 1994, he married Donna Faye George in Oswego. She survives him.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by a son, Travis Strickland (Danna) of Rogers, Arkansas; two daughters, Tiffany Calico of Huntsville, Arkansas, and Dawn Richardson (Dennis) of Kansas City, Missouri; a stepson, John Strickland (Lisa) of Oswego; three stepdaughters, Janet Johnston (Mark), Judy Pease and Joyce Fox (Kevin), all of Oswego; a sister, Naomi Carter (Andy) of Chetopa; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 siblings. The family received friends Monday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at the Pavilion in Oswego Cemetery. Rod Monroe will officiate.
