Parsons rescue crews and police were called around midnight Tuesday to the low water bridge in Marvel Park after a car got swamped trying to cross the bridge as flood water flowed over it. A witness told police he was parked at the top of the east hill watching Labette Creek rise and the driver of the Chevrolet passed him, traveled down the hill and into the water. The driver got out of the car safely but the car was covered by the water overnight until only its shark-tooth antenna was visible Wednesday morning. The car’s location had also shifted. Police and other rescue crews encourage people to “turn around, don’t drown” when traveling roads that can flood. The city’s gates blocking access to the low-water crossing were not closed at the time of the accident Tuesday night. Ray Nolting/Sun photos
