Barbara Gofourth

Barbara Gofourth, 89, of Parsons passed away at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society of Parsons.

She was born July 11, 1935, at Parsons, a daughter of Jacob Wallace and Hazel Mae (Tranberger) Shepard. She was raised at and attended schools in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School in 1953.

She married her high school sweetheart, Delbert Gofourth, on June 9, 1953, at Bentonville, Arkansas. They had three sons, Rod, Mark and Scott. She was employed by J.J. Newberry’s and Litwins Department Store and later owned and operated Fashion Crossroads, Mode a Day and a used book store. She also worked at H&R Block. Mr. Gofourth preceded her in death on July 9, 2012.

She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rod and Ramona Gofourth, Edna, and Scott and Brenda Gofourth, Parsons; two sisters, Jo Good, Oswego, and Kay Good, Chanute; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Mark Gofourth; three brothers, Raymond, Don and Russell Shepard; and four sisters, Ruth McGlacklin, Francis Morgan, Ellen Cornwell and Helen Good.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, in the chapel at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Claude Shue officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery.  The family suggests memorials to Faith United Methodist Church, and these may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O.
