WICHITA — Three Parsons Vikings track athletes earned medals and spots on the podium at the 2025 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships over the weekend — Ayanna Robertson, Brelin Summers and Braelyn Hinman- Mitchell.

Robertson was the Class 4A runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 35-11. Eudora’s Adalyn Hemphill cleared 36-9.75 to win the event.

“That’s a Saturday event after competing in long jump the day before. That got her nerves out of the way. In triple jump, she would have had to break her own PR to win it,” Parsons head coach Wes Krull said. “But that’s a part of the learning experience. Anytime we bring a freshman to state track, they get so much confidence.”

The freshman leaper also finished 10th in the long jump (16-6.5).

“She just works hard and works to get better, little by little. In track, she wants to PR every day and do the best job she’s ever done,” Krull said. “At practice, she can go forever. Her freshman year was the best learning experience and she got a lot under her belt. In basketball, she led a team that had just lost six seniors. We all learned together. We’re all proud of her. She’s going to be a problem in the future for other schools.”

Summers delivered a balanced showing for the Vikings, finishing fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.26) and the triple jump (43-1.25).

“What he did at state is what explains Brelin,” Krull said. “This dude is always trying to do new events. His main events are the two hurdles and two jumps, and he made it to state in three of them. He’s working hard all the time. He’s our character on the team. He brings joy. And he’s a good leader. He encourages everybody to try new things. Over the weekend, he was in pain with shin splints. But he still PRd in the hurdles. He always had more gas in the tank.”

Hinman-Mitchell, a junior dual-sport athlete in the spring, placed fifth in the javelin (128-9).

“She had an amazing season,” Krull said. “She did great at state. She’s the busiest gal in the spring with all the softball and all the track. She goes to both practices and I’m so proud of her. She’s fifth in the state in javelin and first team All-SEK in softball.”

Other state finishers for Parsons included Jason Smart finishing 10th in the 100m dash prelims (11.18), Colten Carson 16th in the 3,200m run (10:38) and Makai Baugh 14th in the long jump (18-5.25).
