The building leased by Walgreens, 1528 Main, is for sale on a website that markets pharmacy properties, but Walgreens has no plans to close in Parsons, a company spokesman told the Sun.
Realty Income Properties, based in California, owns the building at 1528 Main. Walgreens leases the space. “We are not affiliated in any way with them other than us being their tenants,” said Jennifer Cotto, a senior specialist in media relations with Walgreens.
Realty Income Properties is trying to sell the building in Parsons for $3.4 million. The listing says that Walgreens has been operating at the site for 20 years (it opened in June 2005) and has four years remaining on its lease term before optional lease periods of five years each kick in.
No closings in Kansas have been announced to date, Cotto said. She said the Walgreens lease on the building at 1528 Main is legally binding for the next owner.
“We don’t have any closures to announce in Kansas, so even if the building is sold, we don’t have plans to close any Kansas locations at this time,” she said. The process of evaluating store performance is ongoing.
The store closures announced in 2024 are to happen over the next three years, so there could be closures in Kansas, “but there is no way for us to know if that will happen,” Cotto said.
The pharmacy chain last year announced it would close some 500 stores in 2025. Walgreens suffered a $3 billion net loss for the last quarter of 2024 and its parent is being acquired by private- equity firm Sycamore Partners for $10 billion.
