FIRE/SHERIFF CALLS

FIRE/SHERIFF CALLS
The Labette County Sheriff’s Office responded to two fires in recent days. The first call came mid-afternoon on May 23 at 522 26000 Road (above). A house occupied by Charles and Donna Ferguson caught fire and burned. The occupants weren’t at home at the time of the fire and the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office is helping investigate the cause. Several rural fire departments as well as Parsons Fire Department responded, as well as the Labette Health Ambulance Service. The second call came the late afternoon of May 25 at 450 E. Sixth St. in Labette City. The home is occupied by James and Karen Smith. The sheriff’s report on the incident shows that a propane leak in the kitchen caused an explosion and fire. Two occupants received injuries and took themselves to the hospital for treatment. Sun photo
