SUMMER READING PROGRAM BEGINS TODAY

SUMMER READING PROGRAM BEGINS TODAY
The Parsons Public Library’s Summer Reading Program kicks off today, Tuesday, May 27, and runs through Aug. 8. Participants can pick up their reading logs starting today. The kick off party for the program runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, and will feature foam (a machine that kicks out tiny bubbles to play in) and water play. Wear old tennis shoes and no Crocs or flip flops. Librarians are offering incentives, gift cards to sponsoring businesses. A number of interesting crafts are also planned for the summer. Some of them are based on the age of the patron (children, teen, adults), others are for all ages. Many require sign-ups in advance of the event by calling (620) 421-5920 or by stopping by the library. June crafts include pendulum painting on June 4, woven bookmarks on June 5, glow in the dark sand on June 11, yoga 101 on June 17, a sugar geode craft on June 18, tai chi 101 on June 23 and a cooking class on June 27. Later in the summer, bleach painting will be available for all ages. Pictured above are some of the crafts and activities for the reading program. The bleach painted shirt is on the upper right of the table. A publication featuring all of the summer reading program activities was published in Friday’s Sun. Sun photo
