Hearing and doing

We live in a busy world. There is lots of hustle and bustle around us. Have you taken time to just stop and listen? There are some pretty good verses about listening that would help us tune in to what God wants you to hear.

Jesus’ younger brother James writes, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19.

We need to listen to what people are saying. Some have said God gave us two ears to listen and only one mouth to speak.

Even more important, because it is God speaking from heaven, He says in Matthew 17:5 “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

We should listen to Jesus! Moses said there would be a prophet like himself that would rise up and that the people must listen to him. Deuteronomy 18:15, Jesus is that prophet. We should listen to Jesus. When asked what we should do to fulfi ll God’s requirements Jesus said, “believe on the one whom God has sent.” John 6:29 We are warned not to harden our hearts when we hear his voice Hebrews 3:15. Some did and died in the wilderness. In Revelation the seven churches were told to “hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

I think God has a lot to say to us. We just need to listen to it, hear his word and open our heart to what he has to say.

Are you listening? Are you reading what he has to say?

Take time and listen to God.

Your Servant in Christ,

Pastor Doug Baty
