June 2 is deadline to file for city, school, college boards
Labette County residents interested in serving on local government boards have until noon Monday, June 2, to file their candidacies.
Seats are available on city commissions, city councils, school boards, community college boards or the Wildcat Extension District.
The names of candidates who file by the deadline will appear on the primary election ballot on Tuesday, Aug. 5, if enough candidates file to require a primary, and on the Tuesday, Nov. 4, general election ballot.
Candidates for these races will file at the Labette County Clerk’s Office in the county courthouse in Oswego, 501 Merchant.
Local seats available in the 2025 election are: Parsons City Commission: Three seats occupied by Verlyn Bolinger (now serving as mayor), Eric Strait and Leland Crooks.
Chetopa City Council: Three seats occupied by Justin Nading, Ernest Wulf and Josh Moore.
Oswego City Council: Three seats occupied by Brandy Scott, Jesse Merritt and Kenny Gott.
Altamont City Council: Four positions, Mayor Richard Hayward and Council members Lyle Sykes, Kyle Wiford and Zachary Sellers are on the ballot. Sellers was appointed to fill a council member’s unexpired term in late 2024. If elected, he will complete that term.
Bartlett City Council: Six positions, Mayor Doug Ramey and Council members Rodney Dodge, Rocky La-Falier, Cheryl Hanigan, Joe

Mound Valley City Council: Three positions, Mayor David Templeton and Council members Lisa Junken and Billy Harness.
Labette Community College Trustees: Three positions, Trustees Becky Dantic, Rod Landrum and Carl Hoskins.
Parsons USD 503 School Board: Three positions, Julie Legler, Jeffery Quirin and Olivia Lyons.
Oswego USD 504 School Board: Three positions, Kristin Redburn, Lewis “Skip” Riley and Cynthia Sanders.
Chetopa/St. Paul USD 505 School Board: Three positions, Kelsey Fleming, Barbara Evans and Kari Chambers.
Labette County USD 506 School Board: Three positions, Rich Falkenstien, Greg Bogner and Justin Bebb. Bebb resigned earlier this month.
Cherokee USD 247 School Board: Three positions, Ron Yancey, Trista Schuster and Position 1 member Whitney Lovall. Lovall was appointed in October 2024 to serve an unexpired term. If elected, she will complete that term.
Cherryvale USD 447 School Board: Three positions, Phillip Reilly, Robert John and Kevin Crain.
Wildcat Extension District: Two positions, Douglas Toburen and Shawn Alloway.
