otes U.S. 169 rail crossing at Cherryvale to close for repair
CHERRYVALE — The South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad plans to close and repair the south crossing on U.S. 169 at Cherryvale on Monday, May 26. The crossing is expected to remain closed through Friday, May 30.
U.S. 169 traffic will follow a signed detour through the city of Cherryvale. The detour has a 12-foot lane and 14-foot height restrictions.

MONDAY: Closed for Memorial Day.
TUESDAY: Summer reading program kicks off (pick up reading logs at the library); 11:30 a.m., free lunch for children age 18 and younger; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18.
WEDNESDAY: 11:30 a.m., free lunch for children age 18 and younger; 4 p.m., Let’s Play for ages 5 and under.
THURSDAY: 11:30 a.m., free lunch for children age 18 and younger; 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Switch freeplay for teens.
FRIDAY, May 30: 11:30 a.m., free lunch for children age 18 and younger; 4 p.m., Let’s Cook for teens; 6 p.m., Summer Reading kickoff foam and water party for all ages. Please wear tennis shoes. No flip-flops or Crocs. Foam may temporarily color skin, shoes and clothing.
St. Paul Public School reunion
ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Public School reunion is scheduled to begin at noon Sunday, June 1, at the St. Paul Senior Center, 505 N. Main.
This will be a potluck luncheon. Former students and family members are welcome to attend.
Memorial Day service in Altamont
ALTAMONT — The annual Memorial Day service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.
Singing and community reminiscing will be part of the ceremony.
Governor directs flags be flown at half-staff
TOPEKA – Gov. Laura Kelly, in accordance with Executive Order #20-30, on Thursday directed flags throughout the State of Kansas to be flown at half-staff from sunup until noon on Monday, May 26, in recognition of Memorial Day.
“Each Memorial Day, we come together to recognize and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “Today, and every day, we thank them for their service to Kansas and our nation.”

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,200 cattle.
Choice cows 155-167, canners-cutters 140-154, shelly cows 139 and down, bred cows up to $2,975, pairs up to $3,600; choice bulls 188-205, lower grades 187 and down.
