CHERRYVALE — An Independence man drowned Wednesday evening at the swimming beach at Big Hill Lake, law enforcement reported.
About 7 p.m. Wednesday, a 911 call alerted law enforcement and first responders to a possible drowning at the swimming beach. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, the Labette County Sheriff’s Office, the Labette Health Ambulance Service and others responded.
Officers used a robotic submersible to recover the body of Camron L. Anderson, 19, of Independence.
Witnesses told law enforcement that Anderson was swimming near the floating yellow boundary for the swim beach when he went under.
