Police arrest man following altercation

Parsons police arrested a Parsons man last week after investigating a series of related crimes.

At 10:31 a.m. Friday, May 9, Parsons police responded to the 2700 block of Briggs Avenue for a hit-and-run accident. Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic situation that escalated into a serious investigation involving allegations of violence, aggravated burglary and a firearms-related offense, according to a release from the Parsons Police Department.

A woman reported that Cedric Webb Jr., 20, entered her home without permission and assaulted her. She alleged that Webb struck her, choked her and displayed an AR-style rifle. She provided officers with a cellphone video appearing to show Webb with the weapon. Officers noted visible injuries on the woman consistent with the statements, including scratches on the nose and neck.

She also stated that Webb’s vehicle, a white 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, struck her parked Cadillac Escalade while fleeing. A nearby witness corroborated the collision.

While officers conducted their on-scene investigation, Detective Sgt. Tony Adamson and other officers searched for Webb. Later that day, Webb voluntarily appeared outside the Parsons station. After being advised of his rights, Webb spoke with officers and denied entering the residence, though he admitted to having a firearm for personal safety. Officers observed fresh injuries on Webb consistent with a physical struggle.

Statements from multiple witnesses, physical evidence and surveillance footage led to Webb being taken into custody, the release said.

A separate witness later approached officers and reported observing a woman fleeing the residence partially undressed and being pursued by a man who sped off in a white vehicle.

“This incident demonstrates the dangers of repeated and escalating behavior among known individuals,” said Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. “The safety of our community depends on victims and witnesses coming forward, and I applaud the swift response of our officers in ensuring this case was taken seriously and addressed promptly.”

Cedric Webb Jr. has since been charged in Labette County District Court with aggravated burglary, a mid-level felony, aggravated battery, a lower level felony, battery and driving with a suspended license, both misdemeanors. He made a first appearance on Monday and will return to court on May 21. He was freed on a $50,000 bond on Monday and ordered to comply with terms and conditions of his probation in two cases.

This continues to be an ongoing investigation, and citizens are encouraged to “see it, hear it, report it.” All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
