Grizzlies complete softball sweep of Vikings

ALTAMONT — Facing their rivals for the second time in as many games, the Labette County Grizzlies took down the Parsons Vikings, 5-0, in SEK League softball action on Monday.

With the game scoreless through four frames, Labette County scored three runs in the fifth inning then two more in the sixth to set the score.

Sierra Hill tossed a complete game, one-hitter for the Grizzlies while striking out a pair of Vikings.

Karsyn Bates had one hit and two RBIs for Labette County while Kadence Ball notched Parsons’ lone hit.

Adalyn Morris was charged with the loss in the circle, allowing five hits while striking out three over six innings of work.

Grizzlies fall to Pittsburg

A day after beating Parsons, the Grizzlies fell on the road to Pittsburg, 12-2, on Tuesday.

While Labette County mounted seven hits at the plate, four errors in the field extended Pittsburg’s rallies.

Breck Slaughter tossed the winning decision for the Purple Dragons, striking out eight. Hill was hit with the loss, allowing 10 hits and five walks.

Keelie Good had two hits and two RBIs for Labette County. Megan Johnston and Brette Pasteur each had three hits for Pittsburg, with Pasteur homering twice.

Vikings lose close one to Indy

On Tuesday, Parsons fell to the Independence Bulldogs on the road, 5-3.

Independence drew first blood with two runs in the bottom of the first. Parsons took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Bulldogs plated three in the sixth.

Braelyn Hinman-Mitchell had a pair of hits and RBIs for the Vikings. Kamdyn Pearson tallied four hits and four RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Morris ate the loss in the loss in the circle, allowing nine hits but just two earned runs.

Up next

Parsons’ regular season ended with the loss to Independence. The VIkings, who are 4-15, are currently slated as the No. 16 and final seed in the Class 4A East regional standings. Louisburg is at No. 17 with a 3-22 record.

Labette County, the No. 15 seed, played Independence on Thursday. A win would vault the Grizzlies to the No. 14 seed.
