LC girls win Thad Clements

CHANUTE — Labette County’s girls claimed first place at the Thad Clements Invitational track and field meet in Chanute on Friday.

Labette County claimed the title in the girls’ standings with 172 points.

Chanute registered 126 points to win second place, followed by Southeast (59), St. Mary’s Colgan (56), Coffeyville (54), Parsons (52), Frontenac (50), Pittsburg (37), Independence (37), Fort Scott (35), Hartford (7), Columbus (7) and Iola (6).

Chanute scored 174 points on the boys’ side, more than doubling runner-up Pittsburg, which scored 83 points.

Coffeyville finished in third place on the boys’ side with 77 points, followed by Labette County (72), Parsons (63), Independence (53), St. Mary’s Colgan (38), Iola (38), Southeast (32), Frontenac (31), Fort Scott (19), Columbus (16), Hartford (8) and Edmond Memorial (8).

Top-three finishers individually for Parsons included Jason Smart winning the 100m dash (10.98), edging out second-place finisher Aaron Tunstall of Coffeyville by four-hundredths of a second.

Colten Carson was third in the 1,600m run (4:52) and second in the 3,200m run (10:41).

Brelin Summers finished runner-up in the 110m hurdles (15.41) and second in the triple jump (43-6.88).

Parsons’ boys 4x100m relay team finished third (44.59).

Ayanna Robertson easily won the long jump with a mark of 17-9.25, over a foot better than second place finisher Emma Mecom of Independence. Robertson also was runner-up in the triple jump (35-4.75).

Braelyn Hinman-Mitchell took second in the javelin (124-8).

As for Labette County, its top-three individual finishers included Jamaal Jackson taking third in the 200m dash (22.57) and second in the 400m dash (49.32).

Labette County’s boys 4x100m relay team won the race by just over a half-second (43.00).

Keegan Stritzke won the discus (148-1) while Malachi Dewey was third in the javelin (156-5).

Presley Witty won the girls 100m dash (12.14) and the 200m dash (25.36).

Anna Cantrell was third in the 800m run (2:36.13) and second in the 1,600m run (5:58.85).

Aubrie Meyer claimed third in the 1,600m run (6:06).

Bethan Barger scored a runner-up finish in the 3,200m run (13:23). Ginger Weathers took third in the 100m hurdles (18.10).

Landry O’Brien won the 300m hurdles (47.29) by over two seconds.

Labette County’s girls 4x100m relay team finished second (51.65). The 4x400m team won the race with a time of 4:10 while the 4x800m team was runner-up (10:29).

Caitlyn Briggs was runner- up in the high jump (4-10) while Samantha Martin took second in the pole vault (8-6).

Kinsey Bebb won the discus (100-2) while Audrey Belknap was third in the shot put (32-3.25).
