At the library

Below are the events for next week at the Parsons Public Library.

MONDAY: 4 p.m., LEGO Club for ages 15 and under; 6 p.m., paint and sip for all ages. Lemonade will be served.

TUESDAY: 10 a.m., sensory hour for ages birth to 3; noon to 4 p.m., first aid and CPR training; 4 p.m., Anime Club for ages 10 to 18; 6 p.m., library board of directors.

WEDNESDAY: 10 a.m., story hour for ages 2 to 6; 4 p.m., afternoon story hour for ages 2 to 6; 6:30 p.m., “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” trivia at Cherry on Top.

THURSDAY: 1 p.m., coloring group for adults and teens; 4 p.m., Switch free play for teens; 6 p.m., Gardening 101, Garden blooms for all ages.

FRIDAY, MAY 16: 4 p.m., Let’s Cook for teens.

Spring crops field day is May 20

K-State Research and Extension will host its spring crops field day on Tuesday, May 20, at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Road, in Parsons.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 9. The agenda: — Tour of wheat variety plots (15 hard red and 13 soft red varieties).

— Hard and soft red wheat varieties for Southeast Kansas. — Spring 2025 climate update and weather outlook. — Weed management in the changing environment. In case of rain, the program will be held indoors. More information and advance registration are available by contacting the Wildcat Extension District office at 620-784-5337 or the Southeast Research and Extension Center at 620-820-6131.

Knap-in scheduled May 30

CHETOPA — The Neosho River Knap-in is scheduled for Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, in Elmore Park in Chetopa.

Flint knapping booths, arrowheads, knives, spears, native tools, jewelry, crafts and unique rocks will be available for buy/ sell/trade.

The public is welcome.

Parsons Livestock Auction

On Wednesday, the Parsons Livestock Auction sold 1,327 cattle.

Choice cows 150-166, canners-cutters 138-149, shelly cows 137 and down, bred cows up to $3,100, pairs up to $3,800; choice bulls 190-209, lower grades 189 and down.

Steers: Up to 400 pounds, 370-500; 400-500, 400-443; 500600, 350-415; 600-700, 280-370; 700-800, 230-325; 800 and over, 230-290.

Heifers: Up to 400 pounds, 347-457; 400-500, 310-425; 500600, 260-344; 600-700, 250-319; 700-800, 240-279; 800 and over, 200-275.
