Rains have delayed opening the Neosho River bridge south of Erie, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. This picture was taken Friday. Guardrail, asphalt paving, striping and signing are among the final activities to be completed. “Conditions permitting, we hope to open the bridge within the next two weeks,” KDOT area spokesperson Priscilla Petersen said. The bridge closed to traffic on Jan. 30, 2024, and A.M. Cohron and Son Inc., Atlantic, Iowa, earned the contract to do the work. The cost will be $11.2 million. The U.S. 59 railroad bridge north of Parsons will be replaced after the Neosho River bridge south of Erie is complete. Ray Nolting/Sun photo
