
Robert Harvey “Bob” Baldwin, 87, a longtime Parsons resident, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
He was born Jan. 29, 1938, at McCune, a son of Harvey Laverne and Inez Lorene (Shaffer) Baldwin. He was raised in McCune and Girard and attended school at McCune, graduating from McCune High School in 1956. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, retiring in 1994 as a master sergeant. During his service, he attended Labette Community College and received an associate’s degree. Throughout his military career, he was stationed at El Paso and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the early 1990s. He also worked at Ruskin Manufacturing from 1975 until his retirement in 2000.
On Aug. 16, 1958, he married Donna Jean Shields at Parsons. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1999.
He was a member of the First Christian Church. He was also a life member of the Brown-Bishop Post 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also belonged to Elks Lodge No. 527 of Parsons. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and playing softball in younger years.
Survivors include two daughters, Melanie D. Dixon, Kansas City, Kansas, and Michele D. Ramirez and her companion, Daniel Dorris, Pittsburg; a son, Monte D. Baldwin and his wife, Luann, Parsons; eight grandchildren, Kyleigh Dixon, Merriam, Jaran Dixon, Parsons, Ashleigh Dixon, New York, New York, Justin Ramirez, Pittsburg, Dylan Ramirez, Joplin, Missouri, Brett Baldwin, Parsons, Megan Baldwin, Pittsburg, and Kinsey Baldwin, Parsons; four great-grandchildren, with one on the way; three brothers, Pastor Ralph Baldwin, Weatherford, Texas, Gary Baldwin, Chanute, and Randy Baldwin, Burlington; three sisters, Jean Hall, Ulysses, Coralie Bennett, Girard, and Cheryl Bennett, Girard.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lynn Baldwin, Allen Baldwin and Leon Baldwin; and four sisters, Irene Heaven, Marjorie Feeman, Leona Kay Ashley and Lois Bevins.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, at the Carson- Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Baldwin officiating. Military Honors will be given by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
