Works of Heidi Schaaf to be at Carnegie this month

The works of Heidi Schaaf will be available for viewing at the Carnegie Arts Center, 117 S. 17th St., later this month.

A public reception is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in advance of the exhibition. The Carnegie will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. April 27 to 30 for viewing.

Schaaf, born in Omaha, Nebraska, attended Wayne State College in Nebraska, where she earned a bachelor of science in studio arts. She continued her education at Kansas State University, earning a master of fine arts.

Her mixed media and outdoor sculptures have been included in more than 20 juried and invitational exhibitions and three solo exhibitions; the most recent exhibition was at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Collation in New York, where she was awarded a certificate of recognition. She has participated in several collaborative projects. Her work has been written about in over five different publications.

Love Labette Week is coming

The community is invited to come together for Love Labette Week, April 19-27, a celebration dedicated to promoting kindness, volunteerism and neighborly spirit throughout Labette County. Love Labette Week is in initiative started by the Chetopa, Oswego and Parsons chambers of commerce.

Love Labette Week is about intentional acts of kindness through volunteering, donating, or simply showing appreciation in small but meaningful ways. This year, local libraries are joining the cause by hosting a “Change War” fundraiser to benefit area food banks. Community members are encouraged to donate spare change to help fight hunger and support families in need.

A range of community service projects are planned or encouraged, including neighborhood clean-up day; visiting seniors at local assisted living and nursing homes; organizing kindness activities, donation drives and more. For more information or to get involved, contact the Parsons Chamber of Commerce at 620-421-6500.
