Parsons takes sixth at Baldwin invite

BALDWIN — Competing at the Baldwin Invitational on Wednesday, the Parsons Vikings girls tennis squad finished in sixth place out of 10 teams.

Hayden won the invitational with 51 points, followed by De Soto (41), Chanute (38), Perry- Lecompton (23), Baldwin (22), Parsons (18), Gardner-Edgerton (17), Independence (12), Ottawa (10) and Bonner Springs (2).

At No. 1 singles, Parsons’ Heidi Shultz went 2-2 in pool play. Shultz defeated Kara Stewart of Bonner Springs and Maddie Williams of Ottawa, while losing to Ainzley Zulueta of Hayden and Ella Guernsey of Chanute.

Parsons’ Laila Haviland also went 2-2 at No. 2 singles, defeating Ottawa’s Payton Claar and Bonner Springs’ Nevaeh Bailon while losing to Chanute’s Leah Burnett and Hayden’s Sofia Sexton.

M anaye Ryan and Kadence Manners claimed third place at No. 1 doubles, going 3-1 in pool play before the bracket.

Ryan and Harris’ lone loss in pool play came to eventual doubles champion Emily Sheetz and Izzy Glotzbach of Hayden. In the third place match, the Parsons duo defeated Maileigh King and Sienna Smith of Gardner-Edgerton.

Bailey Siu and Lexi Jones went 0-4 in pool play at No. 2 doubles for Parsons.
