Joe M. Feagan

ALTAMONT — Joe M. Feagan, 88, of rural Altamont went home to be with the Lord at 7:20 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Girard Medical Center.

Joe Melvin Feagan was born on Feb. 18, 1937, to Jess A. and Hazel (Gibson) Feagan in Columbus. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Columbus, where he grew up and attended school.

On Aug. 24, 1956, Joe married Dorothy Johnson in Miami, Oklahoma. Shortly after getting married, the couple moved to Parsons, where they lived until moving to rural Altamont in 1979. For 43 years, Joe was employed at Parsons Motor Co. until the business was destroyed by the tornado in 2000. He then worked at Roman Motors in Independence. After retirement, he drove a transportation vehicle for Labette Health.

He was an active member of the First Assembly of God in Parsons, where he enjoyed driving the church bus and helping with the Royal Rangers for many years. His Christian faith being an important part of his life, Joe loved reading the Bible. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He loved to travel, especially taking bus trips with his wife.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Randal Feagan (Cathy) of Pittsburg, Joe Reginald Feagan (Teri) of Oswego and Kevin Feagan (Ashley) of Parsons; a daughter, Lisa Schmidt of Parsons; 11 grandchildren, Kyle Feagan (Amie), Jason Feagan (Angela), Jess Feagan (Ashley), Louise Ellis (David), Casie Yount (Jason), Bradley Feagan (Chloe), Sean Schmidt (Maria), Gage Schmidt (Destineelee), Karley Ailin (Ari), Titus Feagan (Morgan) and Samantha Feagan; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, on July 25, 2021; a brother, Jess Alan Feagan; a sister, Doris Vantrease; a son-in-law, Pat Schmidt; and a great-granddaughter, Riley May Feagan.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Assembly of God Church in Parsons. Burial will follow at the Oswego Cemetery.
