CHANUTE — Dorothy F. Scott Larez, 87, former resident of Wichita, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.

She was born June 30, 1923, in Parsons the daughter of Samuel Jefferson Sr. and Mattie (Russell) Coots. She was the last survivor of seven children. She was raised in Southeast Kansas, but lived her adult life in Wichtia and San Jose, Calif.

She married Marvin Scott, who preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1995. On Oct. 4, 2006, she married Benito S. Larez; he survives in Newton.

Other survivors include a daughter, Janette Weniger Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Vanderreest of Irvine, Calif.; two grandsons, Tobin Frizzell of Montana and Robert Manzanares of Neveda; three stepgranddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Marvin, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Coots, Roy Coots, Samuel “Jeff” Coots Jr.; and three sisters, Reba Snyder, Ruby Maxwell and Peggy Cooper.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service is planned for a later date.

Her family and friends were her greatest joy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gable Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
