OSWEGO — Alex Fred Denton, 91, of Oswego died on Oct. 13, 2010, following a short illness.

Fred served five years in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946.

He married Goldie L. Page on Aug. 4, 1948, in Independence. He bought and managed Denton Hardware in Oswego from 1962 to 1985. From 2002 to 2007, he served as a volunteer at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.

He enjoyed raising his cattle on the family farm. Fred was an avid supporter of Oswego athletics. His time spent on the golf course with his buddies was very special.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Willis of Oswego; a son, Steve Denton and his wife, Nancy, of Oswego; four grandchildren, Amber Krueger, Ryan Willis, Christine Studer and Natalie Denton; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Atherton and Nicholas Willis.

A memorial service for Fred will be on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home Chapel in Oswego with Pastor Robert Conway officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jay Trower, Art Ferguson, Ralph Glendenning, Chuck Crowell, Scott Page, Bob Willis and Ryan Willis. Continuing in his giving spirit, Fred donated his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Burial will take place at a later date at Oswego Cemetery.
