She was born on Aug. 8, 1913, at Seiling, Okla., to John Allen and Julia (Bagley) Shira. When she was a teenager the family moved to Labette City.
She and Amos Parlett were married on Jan. 11, 1931, at Oswego. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1980.
She resided in Labette City, Oswego, Altamont, Parsons and Lincoln, Ark., during her lifetime. She was a homemaker and worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center as a seamstress.
She was a member of the Oswego United Methodist Church. She enjoyed oil painting, playing the piano, crocheting, sewing, quilting, and making quilts, afghans and paintings for her family.
Survivors include three sons, Doyle Parlett and his wife, Dru, of Altamont, Gary Parlett and his wife, Dorothy, of Talala, Okla., and Dan Parlett and his wife, Karen, of Abilene, Texas; two daughters, Shirley Ellis and her husband, Ed, of Parsons and Joan Hambrick of Cameron, Okla.; a son-in-law, David Talbot of Belle Plaine; 16 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Talbot; a grandson, Wayne Ellis; a great-grandson, Levi Nash; two brothers, Millard Gallentine and Orville Shira; and a sister, Gail Cox.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Labette City Cemetery.
