He was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Parsons to James A. and Mary E. (Hamilton) Garretson. He grew up and attended Parsons schools. He was employed by the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant for 35 years and also did carpentry work.
He had attended Center Bethel Union Church and was a member of Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M. and Elks — BPOE Lodge No. 527. He loved spending time with his family and friends and always enjoyed a good joke.
He married Jeanette E. Leonard on Nov. 23, 1952, in Huntsville, Ark. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael Garretson of Parsons, Tony Garretson of Olpe and Randy Garretson of Shawnee; a daughter, Sandy Lanning of Greenwood, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Garretson of Topeka, Jerold Garretson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Glen Garretson of Parsons; and two sisters, Sally Ragland of Sacramento, Calif., and Jean Allen of Parsons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
