He was born March 19, 1921, in Lawrence County, Mo., to Cecil and Ruby (Arthur) Charles. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Ruth Filbeck on May 25, 1947. He was a member of Sunset Church of Christ.
He worked for Crown Drug Store as a manager and druggist. He retired after 18 years of ownership of the Dairy Boy in El Reno, Okla.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth, of the home; two children, Steven Charles of Oswego and Sharon Arthur of Hurst, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Charles of Oswego; four grandchildren, Hilary Betaille and her husband, William, of Gouvieux, France, Mandy Crittendon and her husband, Ivory, of Houston, Spencer Charles and his wife, Laura, of Oswego and Chase Arthur of Fort Worth, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Max and Victor Betaille, Jalen, Justice and Mayah Crittendon and Adrien and Aleyna Charles; a sister, Nadine Hixon of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Leon Charles of Lockwood, Mo.; as well as many other relatives and friends.
