She was born June 26, 1919, in Jacksonville, Kan., to Charles Liberty “Bert” and Grace (Warnick) Amos. She grew up and attended school in the McCune rural area. During World War II, she worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant and also did housekeeping for families in the McCune area.
She and Hershel R. Brown were married Sept. 9, 1949, in Girard, Kan. Following marriage, they lived in California for a time before moving back to McCune, where they lived until she moved to the nursing home. He preceded her in death April 21, 2001.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church in McCune. She enjoyed playing the piano, tending to her flower gardens, and especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Gary Brown and his wife, Judy, of rural McCune; two daughters, Donna Ammann and her husband, Albert, of rural Parsons and Linda Warren and her husband, Charles, of rural Altamont; four grandchildren, Charles Brown, Justin Brown, Troy Warren and Craig Warren; four great-grandchildren, Ava Brown, Grant Rankins, Ayden Warren and Greenly Warren; and expecting a great-grandson later this month.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Amos; and a sister, Mary Spillman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
