ALTAMONT — Jessie “Louise” Schneickert, 90, of rural Altamont died at 3:28 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
She was born Sept. 28, 1919, at Seneca, Mo., to David Cruse and Jessie Vaud (Robinson) Rakes. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Parsons, where she attended school until they moved to rural Altamont. She was a 1938 graduate of Labette County Community High School and also graduated from Parsons Business College. She worked at the former Parsons Cold Storage and later at the Kansas Ordnance Plant during World War II.
She was married George A. Schneickert on Dec. 31, 1945, at Oswego. He died on June 10, 1987. Following their marriage, while her husband served in the U.S. Navy, they lived in New Orleans, La., Bermuda and Port Arthur, Texas. In 1954, they returned to Labette County where they bought the old Hartwell farm and had lived there since. She enjoyed reading, quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, bird watching and taking bus trips.
Survivors include two sons, George Schneickert and his wife, Rochelle, of Woodbridge, Va., and John Schneickert and his wife, Carolyn, of Parsons; a daughter, Betty Schneickert of Altamont; four grandchildren, Jonna Gabbert, Jaime Schneickert, Brian Schneickert and Kevin Schneickert; and three great-grandchildren, Alissa, Alucian and Xander Gabbert.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother.
A graveside service was at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.
