He was born Dec. 21, 1955, at Oswego to William J. and Mary (Riley) Paynter. He grew up in Labette City and Parsons and graduated from Labette County Community High School at Altamont.
He had worked as a mechanic before becoming disabled.
Survivors include four sisters, Mary Stewart of Clinton, Mo., Amy Adsit of Labette City, Norma Rooks of Council Grove and Nola Ross of Amarillo, Texas.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCune Cemetery. Friends may call at Carson-Wall Funeral Home at their convenience.
