He was born Nov. 1, 1930, at Edna to Edward and Mae (Wilmoth) Houston. He grew up and attended school in Labette County.
On Feb. 12, 1966, he married Kay Danielle Moses at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Edna area.
Mr. Houston farmed and ranched in the Edna area and was employed at Comet Trailer Co., Acme Foundry and Cook Pump Co., all in Coffeyville.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending and participating in antique tractor pulls and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Erin Barnett.
Survivors include his wife, Kay, of the home; three sons, Brian Gibson Barnett of Edna, James Edward Houston of Bartlett and Wayne Christopher Houston of Edna; three sisters, Wynona Born of Palestine, Texas, Zelma Rauch of Oswego and Anita Wooton of Baytown, Texas; and a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Barrett of Edna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Verl Houston, Wally Houston, Clyde Houston and Dale Houston; and a sister, Geraldine Houston.
The graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett with the Rev. Ben Nguyen of Holy Name Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to an education fund being established for his granddaughter, Erin Barnett, and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, 67337.
