AUGUSTA — Virginia Hizey, 72, of Augusta died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010.
Virginia was born in Labette on Oct. 23, 1937, to William N. and Edith Mae (Hunter) Newton Sr.
On June 5, 1955, she married Bob Hizey in Galesburg.
She was a homemaker and owned and operated with Hizey Service and Supply with her husband.
Virginia enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards, and spending time at their cabin at Beaver Lake, Ark. She was a member of PEO, Junior Forum, Pinochle Card Club, and Bridge Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Augusta since moving there in 1958. She served on the initial building committee throughout the whole building process of the present church, was very active in United Methodist Women, Seekers Sunday School Class, and represented the Augusta United Methodist Church at annual conference for several years.
Her faith and strong Christian values helped her get through many obstacles in her life and be the wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and sister that she was.
In addition to her husband she is survived by daughters, Deborah Turpin and her husband Dave; and Diane Kiser and husband Mike, all of Augusta; brother, William Newton Jr. and wife Carolyn of Parsons; sisters, Carolyn Newmaster and husband Mike of Ottawa, Kansas; Margie Batson and husband Roger of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Jane Washburn and husband Frank of Hastings, Neb.; grandchildren and spouses, Brian and Natalie Turpin, Kenny and Nicole Turpin, Kevin and Julie Turpin, Angie Kiser, Mitch and Ali Kiser, and Jill Kiser; and great grandchildren, Annie, Caleb, Holland, Chloe, Ragen, Addelyn, Dalton, and Brigden Turpin. She is also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Augusta. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta, where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
