JOPLIN — Michael R. Chavis, 25, of Joplin, formerly of Pittsburg and Parsons, died Saturday morning, Aug. 14, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Dec. 12, 1984, in Columbus the son of Jed and Crystal (Finke) Powell. His birth father was Tony Chavis.

Survivors include his parents of Joplin; his birth father, Tony Chavis; a brother, Scott Chavis and his wife, Hilary, of Pittsburg; two stepsisters, Amanda Powell of Pottsville, Ark., and Alishia Rooney of West Mineral; two half brothers, Jason and Sean Chavis; a half sister, Stephanie Chavis-Thompson; two grandmothers, Betty Chavis of Louisiana and Betty Finke of Frontenac; a nephew, Drew Chavis; and two nieces, Sophia Chavis and Britni Rooney; and many other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, the Rev. M.H. Chavis and George Finke; and a stepbrother, Joshua Powell.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson, 5014 Hearnes Blvd. Joplin, with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating.
