Jacquelyn J. “Jackie” Barrett, 68, of Parsons died Sunday evening, Aug. 15, 2010, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born July 9, 1942, in Parsons to John L. and Arwana (Cook) Dickerson. She grew up in Parsons and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1960.

On June 30, 1967, she married Richard A. Barrett in Tulsa. They lived in Tulsa and in Oklahoma City before returning to Parsons in 1988. Mr. Barrett preceded her in death on April 16, 2000.

She was employed at the First National Bank (Team Bank) in Parsons for more than 20 years.

Survivors include her mother, Arwana Dickerson of Springfield, Mo.; two grandsons, Tyler Barrett and Clayton Barrett, both of Parsons; two granddaughters, Ashley Barrett and Sydney Alloway, both of Bartlett; three brothers, Don Dickerson and his wife, Jeanne, of Hartford, Conn., John Dickerson and his wife, Mary Jo, of Iola, and Douglas Dickerson and his wife, Nancy, of Oswego; and five sisters, Deanna Young and her husband, Jim, of Texarkana, Ark., Marilyn Hedlof and her husband, David, of Wilmar, Minn., Linda Ryburn and her husband, Terry, of Parsons, Janet Lewellen and her husband, Darrel, and Jill Hill and her husband, Chris, all of Springfield, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Barrett, in 2007; her husband; and her father.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Arvon Phillips Community Center. Her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical School.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
