WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Melinda Marie “Mindy” Hughston, 23, West Plains, Mo., died at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.
She was born June 15, 1987, at Parsons to Brian Lahey and Brenda Bertling Miller. She received her associate degree from Missouri State University, West Plains campus, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
On Sept. 10, 2005, she married John “Derek” Hughston at Eureka Springs, Ark. She was a registered nurse, having been employed in the O.B. department of the Ozarks Medical Center. She was raised attending the First Baptist Church of West Plains and was a member of the Lifepoint Church.
Survivors include her husband, Derek Hughston, of the home; her daughter, Madison Grace Hughston of the home; her parents, Brenda Miller and her husband, George, of West Plains, Mo., and Brian Lahey and his wife, Terresa, of Parsons; three brothers, Tyler Huneycutt of West Plains, Mo., Rian Lahey and Rowdy Lahey, both of Parsons; a sister, Amanda Holmes and her husband, Eric, of Ozark, Mo.; three nephews, Gavin and Grady Holmes and Briggs Hughston; maternal grandparents, Charles and Carolyn Littrell of Warrensburg, Mo., and Mary Lou Miller of West Plains, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Mike and Jane Lahey of Parsons; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janice Hughston of Pomona, Mo., and David Hughston and his wife, Diedra, of West Plains, Mo.; sister-in-law, Regan Hughston of West Plains, Mo.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her maternal grandparents, Gilbert Bertling and Russell and Wilma Miller, preceded her in death.
The service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the West Plains Civic Center under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service Sunday at the civic center. Burial will be at Dripping Springs Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mindy Hughston Memorial Fund and mailed to the funeral home, 211 West Main, West Plains, Mo.
Mindy requests was that you wear “I Hate Cancer” T-shirts and casual dress.
