Wayne Fugate, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully in hospice care on June 18, 2010, in Oro Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Tracy Fugate and Lizzie Bell Fugate of Walnut,; and by his brother, Leroy Fugate of Redfield.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dawley Fugate, of Oro Valley; his children, Michael Wayne Fugate and his wife, Tina, of Sycamore, Ill., John Thomas Fugate of San Antonio, Kathleen Fugate Laborde and her husband, Ralph Laborde, of San Antonio and Barbara Jane Fugate of Minneapolis, Minn.; and his loving grandchildren.

T. Wayne was born in Walnut on Sept. 18, 1929, and lived in Walnut until leaving for the University of Colorado. After graduating with degrees in chemical engineering and marketing, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, 1955-1958. He and Mary raised their four children in Little Rock, Ark., and later in St. Louis. He retired from Merck & Co. Inc. (previously Calgon Corp.) in 1989 after a successful 31-year career in sales and management. T. Wayne and Mary built their retirement home in Oro Valley, where they pursued hobbies in bird-watching and golf.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Walnut United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., to be followed by interment of ashes at Glenwood Cemetery in Walnut.
