CHERRYVALE — Kristie A. Blaes, 67, of Cherryvale died Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Labette Health because of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

She was born March 16, 1943, in Independence to Charles “Tiny” and Vivian “GG” (Hurd) Moon. She graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1961 and received an associate’s degree fro Independence Community College. She received a degree in elementary education from Pittsburg State University and later a master’s degree in educational administration.

She was principal of St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Independence for 20 years.

She married Robert “Rabbit” Blaes on June 10, 1961. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Bryan P. Blaes of Cherryvale and Sean R. Blaes of Olathe; a daughter, Kelly Passauer of Cherryvale; four grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Moon of Fort Worth, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at the church. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.

The family suggests memorials to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Altar Society.
