Ferne Brady, 87, of Parsons died at 4:05 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Elmhaven West in Parsons.

She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Cora, Mo., to James R. and Virginia A. (Bundridge) Spencer. She grew up and attended schools in Cora and Milan, Mo. She also lived in Kirksville, Mo., for a few years where she worked at a dime store.

When she lived in Brookfield, Mo., she married William F. "Bill" Brady on Jan. 9, 1950. They moved to Parsons in 1957 where they operated the Brady Shoe Repair Shop until they retired in 1989. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 2005.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and later St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. She was a member of the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a life member of the Soroptomist International of Parsons.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Sears and her husband, Bill, of Parsons; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Ortig of Arlington, Texas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; five sisters; and an infant great-granddaughter.

The service was Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Michael's Cemetery in Brookfield, Mo.
