Louise Marie Walker, 97, of Parsons died at 4:42 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Labette Health in Parsons.

She and her twin sister, Lucille, were born Feb. 2, 1913, in Parsons to Truman and Inez (Grimes) Bidwell. Mr. Bidwell died in 1918 during the flu epidemic. Later, Mrs. Bidwell married Harve Bendure, who helped raise the family.

She attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1931. She graduated from Olson’s Business College in 1932.

On July 7, 1940, she married Hayes Walker in Parsons. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1972.

Mrs. Walker worked in the personnel department for National Gypsum in the 1950s and then was employed for 20 years at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of First Christian Church and was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a past president of the Parsons chapter of the National Secretaries Association.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Walker and his wife, Lora, of Oakton, Va., and Douglas Walker and his wife, Wendy, of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her twin sister, Lucille Quarles of Parsons.

Preceding her in death was her husband; a daughter, Betty Bays; and a sister, Merle Stocks.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience on Monday.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.
